How to Style Gold Jewellery

Gold jewellery never goes out of style and is the ideal finishing touch to any outfit, but what’s the best way to rock gold? Here are some tips and rules on what to style your latest gold pieces with.

Standing Out

One thing you want to avoid is making your outfit too cluttered with jewellery and accessories.

Instead, keep things simple to ensure that every piece is able to shine on its own. Keep your jewellery limited to about two or three pieces that you really like, rather than overdoing it, and try not to wear anything with loud patterns with them, which will distract from the jewellery.

If you’re opting for a big, statement piece of gold jewellery, like an impressive gold necklace, make sure that the rest of your outfit is quite simple, to really draw attention to that statement piece.

Whether it’s a piece of jewellery or a piece of clothing, decide the one thing that you want to wear the most, and plan the rest of your outfit around that.

It could be that you’re using a bold piece of jewellery to bring a plain outfit to life, or perhaps just some smaller, more subtle jewellery to complement your outfit.

Mixing Metals?

Once upon a time, it was frowned upon to wear jewellery of different metals together, but now, it’s much less of a fashion faux-pas.

So, why not pair up your gold jewellery with silver, platinum or other metals? If you do mix metals though, it’s important to maintain a sense of cohesion with your jewellery, and don’t just throw anything together.\

Gemstones

If your gold jewellery contains gemstones, try to make sure that your other pieces such as earrings, bracelets and rings contain the same gemstones, or at least of the same colour, to help keep a sense of unity throughout your outfit.

Also consider wearing similar coloured garments to the colours of the gemstones that you’re wearing, or complementary colours.

Colours

When you think of gold, it’s likely yellow gold which springs into your mind straight away, but there are also many other colours of gold that you can try too, including white gold, rose gold and more.

Rose gold in particular has experienced an upsurge in popularity in recent years that shows no sign of slowing down, and it’s a fun way to mix things up without ditching gold entirely.

Face Shape/Skin Tone

Certain pieces of gold jewellery look more flattering on some faces than others, so it’s a good idea to try and pick out pieces which complement your face shape and skin tone.

For example, for those with a longer rectangle or oblong-shaped face, a shorter necklace can look better, whereas the opposite is true if you have a smaller, rounder face, where a longer necklace would help to elongate the face.

When it comes to skin tones, gold generally looks more flattering on those who have a warmer skin tone, so if you do have a cooler skin tone, perhaps you should opt for white gold, or maybe even something other than gold, such as silver or platinum.

Do Your Own Thing/Experiment

However you decide to style your gold jewellery, remember that there are no hard and fast rules. If you think something looks good, then go for it!

This is one of the great things about gold jewellery, no matter how you wear it, it never really goes out of style, so you can’t really go far wrong.

This being said, don’t be afraid to experiment and try new pieces and combinations to update your look.
